Integrating Genetec Security Center with the SAIK system
Connecting data, events, and video in a single operating environment
Project context
The client was using several independent systems to support security and operator workflows. Video surveillance, the SAIK system, databases, and analytical tools all operated as separate environments.
Information needed to assess an incident was therefore scattered across different systems. To verify a specific event, an operator had to use more than one source of information.
The goal of the project was to connect these environments so that data from SAIK could be used directly within the Genetec Security Center platform and linked to video footage.
Goal: using SAIK data directly in Genetec
The project involved integrating the SAIK system with the Genetec Security Center platform.
The objectives included:
- real-time transmission of events from SAIK to Genetec,
- linking events with relevant video footage,
- synchronizing data between systems,
- standardizing identifiers and event context,
- providing the operator with information from both systems in a single environment,
- preparing an architecture that allows for future expansion of the solution.
It was essential to maintain the existing systems and utilize them within a single architecture, rather than replacing them with yet another independent tool.
How did squareTec integrate Genetec and SAIK?
Integration layer between systems
squareTec designed an integration layer responsible for data exchange between SAIK and Genetec Security Center.
The solution utilizes proprietary squareTec integration components, which manage data exchange between systems and allow communication methods to be tailored to the existing environment's architecture.
Genetec Security Center serves as the environment where the operator manages video and events. SAIK provides information regarding events and operational data.
This separation of roles preserves the functionality of both systems while making their data available within a single operational process.
Event and data synchronization
One of the key elements of the project was ensuring the consistency of information transferred between the systems.
The integration includes, among other things:
- synchronization of events from SAIK to Genetec,
- identifier mapping,
- linking events with video footage,
- synchronization of time and event context,
- real-time information transfer.
In practice, this means that an event recorded in SAIK can be presented to the operator along with the relevant context and footage from the video surveillance system.
Consequently, the operator does not need to treat data from SAIK and the monitoring system as two independent sources of information.
What did the integration change?
A single view of the information needed to handle an event
Following the integration, the operator can work with data from both systems within the Genetec Security Center environment.
Depending on the type of event, available information includes:
- event details,
- associated video footage,
- historical data,
- information from other integrated sources.
This allows for a faster transition from the initial event notification to its verification and analysis.
Event search and analysis
Combining data from SAIK with video footage enables event analysis within a broader context.
Operators can search for information regarding an event and then jump directly to the associated video footage. This is particularly important when it is necessary to reconstruct the sequence of events or verify information from multiple sources.
Architecture ready for future expansion
The integration is designed as a layer that can evolve alongside the organization's needs.
The architecture allows for the inclusion of additional data sources and systems, including IoT solutions, ANPR, as well as analytical and AI tools.
As a result, expanding the environment does not require building new, independent systems. New sources can be incorporated into the existing integration architecture.
SAIK Integrator for Genetec Security Center
For this project, squareTec utilized its proprietary integration solution, SAIK Integrator, developed for the Genetec Security Center environment.
The solution enables information exchange between the SAIK system and the Genetec platform, including real-time event handling and access to related information and video footage directly from within the Genetec environment.
The integration can also include data synchronization between systems and the visualization of SAIK component status information within Genetec Security Center.
This is an example of an approach where squareTec does not limit itself to implementing off-the-shelf products. If a client's existing systems require a dedicated connection, we design and develop an integration layer tailored to that specific environment.
Why does this approach matter?
In complex security environments, replacing systems with new solutions is not always possible or justified.
An organization may already have functional monitoring, access control systems, event management solutions, databases, and analytical tools in place. The problem arises when information from these systems cannot be used together.
In such cases, integration allows for leveraging existing infrastructure while simultaneously improving how data is handled.
In the Genetec–SAIK project, the key was precisely combining information from different systems without sacrificing their existing functionality.
The role of squareTec in the project
squareTec was responsible for designing the integration architecture and preparing the components that enable communication between SAIK and Genetec Security Center.
The scope of work included:
- analysis of the existing environment,
- integration architecture design,
- development of data exchange mechanisms,
- data mapping and synchronization,
- integration of events with video footage,
- configuration of the solution within the Genetec environment,
- testing the integration and its performance in the target environment.
A key aspect of the project was tailoring the integration to the existing infrastructure and user workflows.
Project outcome
Integrating Genetec Security Center with SAIK has enabled the consolidation of operational data and event information with video footage within a single workspace.
The primary project results include:
- a unified context for data and imagery,
- access to SAIK events directly from the Genetec interface,
- automatic linking of events with video footage,
- streamlined analysis and reconstruction of events,
- reduced need to switch between independent systems,
- an architecture prepared for the integration of additional data sources.
This project demonstrates that the value of integration lies in more than just the technical connection of two systems. The key is designing that connection so that data from existing systems can truly be utilized in daily operations.
