For demanding operational use

A rugged camera designed for demanding operational environments. It delivers high-quality video and audio, up to 120 seconds of pre-event buffering, and live streaming support. The device's design and features are tailored for law enforcement and security personnel.

AXIS W111

Lightweight camera for full-shift use

A newer, compact model designed for workplace applications and more. Weighing just 99g, it offers a full-shift battery life in typical use and supports up to 120 seconds of pre-event buffering. The camera utilizes open integration standards and multi-layered cybersecurity.

AXIS W120

Live streaming and location tracking

A model specifically designed for applications requiring live streaming and location tracking. Built-in LTE/4G connectivity allows for direct video streaming from the camera, while the device offers up to 15 hours of battery life, up to 120 seconds of pre-event buffering, and a Stealth mode.

The choice of a specific model should be based on working conditions, usage patterns, required mobility, battery life, the need for live streaming, and how it integrates with your existing environment.

Body worn cameras with pre-event buffering

In dynamic situations, starting a recording exactly when an incident occurs can mean losing information from the seconds leading up to it.

That is why Axis cameras use pre-event buffering. Depending on the model and configuration, it is possible to capture up to 120 seconds of footage prior to the start of the actual recording.

The system also allows for the automatic activation of nearby cameras. Axis is developing this feature by, among other things, triggering adjacent devices using Bluetooth signals.

This is important during interventions, inspections, site security operations, or situations where an incident involves more than one employee.

Secure recording and evidence protection

In public environments and high-security settings, recordings must be protected not only while stored but throughout their entire lifecycle.

Axis solutions utilize, among others:

  • data encryption,
  • secure boot,
  • signed recordings,
  • hardware-based key protection,
  • secure communication,
  • system access control,
  • secure transfer of footage to the target system.

Axis also uses Axis Edge Vault, signed firmware, and mechanisms to ensure the integrity of recordings. For live streaming, additional end-to-end encryption is applied.

AXIS Body Worn Live – live video streaming

In certain applications, simply saving a recording after an intervention is not enough.

AXIS Body Worn Live enables live video streaming from a body-worn camera. With the AXIS W120, streaming can take place directly via built-in LTE/4G. The system also allows for user location tracking.

This operational model can be used during:

  • emergency service interventions,
  • event security,
  • security operations,
  • work in high-risk facilities,
  • situations requiring remote operator support.

The operator can receive a view of the situation while the event is still unfolding, rather than waiting until the user returns to the docking station.

Integration with VMS and evidence management systems

One of the key features of the Axis solution is its open architecture.

The body-worn system can be integrated with your chosen VMS or EMS environment, allowing recordings from body-worn cameras to be managed alongside footage from fixed cameras.

For Genetec, body worn camera footage can be managed within Security Center and Genetec Clearance. For Milestone, the AXIS Body Worn for XProtect solution is available, enabling secure uploading, storage, viewing, exporting, and sharing of footage.

For an organization that already has a VMS, this means the ability to incorporate body worn cameras into the existing architecture rather than building a separate environment.

Managing body worn cameras and users

With a few cameras, system configuration is relatively simple. With dozens or hundreds of devices, administrative processes start to matter.

Who gets a specific camera?
Which camera is available at the start of a shift?
Is the device software up to date?
Has it been docked correctly?
Have the recordings been uploaded?
What is the battery status?

AXIS Body Worn Manager Pro allows for centralized management of large, distributed installations. It includes system configuration, settings management, updates, and integration with Microsoft Active Directory.

In large organizations, it is worth designing these processes at the implementation stage.

Privacy, recording control, and data retention

Body-worn cameras operate in environments where bystanders, employees, sensitive information, or areas subject to strict privacy regulations may be present.

Current versions of Axis software include mechanisms such as privacy zones, including the ability to automatically stop recording when a user enters a specific zone. The system can also notify the user when recording is activated.
